Road Trippin'

On June 30th the day finally came when Christian & I had (I was forced!) to begin our trek home to PA.

We had a "pod" type container delivered to our house the Tuesday before, packed it up in 45 minutes, then they picked it up and shipped it home for us.

Notice Stanley's carrier is almost 2x the size of little Chicken's
and he was twice the baby she was in the car

The family I nanny for made us some chocolate chip banana bread for the ride, Client's favorite!
MMMMM

Hmmm... this doesn't seem right

Christian had us give both kitties a dose of sleepy juice before we even hit the road.  I insisted Chicken didn't need it but we ended up giving it to her anyway.
Stanley had a few meltdowns lasting about 10 min but overall they were great.
Chicken just sleeps the entire time, not a peep.

Finally getting sleepy....

After 10 hours or so of driving Saturday we reached Des Moines, our first destination.

I thought I missed humidity!  NOPE.  Awful.
Felt like I couldn't breathe.

They gave us these for the kitties :)

The cats really seemed to enjoy exploring the hotel rooms!

A rare Chicken sighting

We went 'downtown' and grabbed a bite just to get out a bit after sitting in the car all day.

Aaaaaand back on the road...

This time headed for a little more excitement.... Chicago!

Christian drove the first shift then I took over for the rest of the way.  UGH   2.5 hours of the most terrible storm!  It was bad.  BUT, after we arrived at the hotel it stopped.  Made me mad I just drove all that way in it but at least it was dry for us to walk around and check out the city for a bit.

Our hotel...

The hotel didn't have any king beds so we got upgraded to 2 double beds and a lake view!

Separate beds, woohoo!!

We were hungry so we asked someone where we should go for lunch and this is where they sent us...

A bunch of famous people at Al's

Christian really like it.  I thought it was OK.

Next we explored the city for a bit.  Unfortunately I had to go get shoes etc for all of my interviews bc I had one the day we got home so we didn't have time to do a little boat cruise or anything.

The bean!

Our reflection

Some fountains next to the bean

Chicago was a beautiful city and I can't wait to go back and spend more time!

After a little exploring we showered and went to a friend of Christians house for drinks and then out to dinner with her and her boyfriend.

Her street was so cute!

We had a great time!

The next morning I woke up to this:

Chicken admiring the lake (or the spider)

Oh, hai.

We decided to go for an early morning run along the lake because we knew we had to sit in the car ALL day.

It was beautiful!

When I put the cats in their carriers they were PISSED to say the least.

I dreaded the drive.  We decided not to give sleep juice and just see how they did.

Amazingly they were perfect!! Stanley finally just gave in and slept the entire time.

It was a LONG 12 hour drive back home.

BUT it was great to be back home.

We had a late dinner with my parents on the porch and relaxed.

Well folks... its been real.

Thanks for reading all of my boring posts!

And thanks for all of your comments!  Oh wait... you never commented.
;)

We are so happy we stepped outside the box and went to Colorado for the year.
We made so many great memories and will never forget our time and friends there.
No regrets.

On to the next chapter.

Signing off,
