On Saturday we attended our lovely friend Eller's birthday bash. We arrived at their apartment around 4 and everyone hung out, had some beers and pizza and sang happy birthday :)
We then headed a few blocks over to fulfill one of Eller's lifelong (I may be exaggerating) dreams; attending the Roller Derby. It was held at a theater in walking distance to our house called the Fillmore. Apparently it originated as a skating rink and now hosts many other events.
* By the way her intense Roller Derby outfit/fanny pack w ipod speakers was found at a store dedicated to only the Roller Derby.
The birthday girl admiring the rink:
Basically each team has a "jammer" who tries to get around the track as many times as possible and the rest of the people try to block the jammers, etc.
The birthday girl commentary cracks me up (shes probably going to kill me):
It was fun... do agree it should have been more violent.
This was at the end of the derby. The VIP section (seriously? I know) made quite the mess!
This is not the last you will see of this rink. Starting next month, every 3rd Friday they have a themed skating night sponsored by PBR. March is heavy metal (I think we are going to skip that one!). April is 70's and they are flying in a DJ. Woohoo!!
After the show Christian & I hit the bathrooms and then lost most of our group, but we had all planned to meet next door at Sancho's, a grateful dead bar.
No one was there yet so we randomly started playing this arcade game.
Well, well, well.... look at that:
Most of the group headed to another bar called "Rock Bar." Its pretty much the scariest looking bar ever attached to a "motel." I can't imagine people go there and come out alive but apparently its great for dancing. I must go before I leave Denver. We opted to go meet my friend Michele from back home who was in town from Steamboat Springs and was within walking distance to Sancho's for a quick drink before heading home. It was great to see her! Didn't get any pics sorry.
The next morning Christian's Uncle John, Aunt Robin & their daughter Michelle flew into town and stopped to see us before heading to the mountains for some skiing. They stopped at our house then we drove downtown to the Highlands neighborhood for some lunch at the Ale House.
We had the most beautiful weather!!
After lunch we all headed to REI around the corner and then headed home.
A great weekend! The fabulous weather continues, sunny and 68 tomorrow.
